OS & IT DEFINITION

OS stands for “Operating System” and IT stands for “Information Technology.”

An operating system (OS) is a software program that manages computer hardware and software resources and provides common services for computer programs. The operating system acts as an intermediary between computer hardware and software applications. It provides a platform for software programs to run on the computer, manages system resources such as memory and processing power, and facilitates communication between hardware components.

Information Technology (IT) encompasses the use of computers, networks, and other electronic devices to store, process, retrieve, and transmit data and information. IT professionals are responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and maintaining computer systems and networks, as well as providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance to users.

In summary, the OS is the foundational software that manages computer resources, while IT refers to the broader field of managing and utilising technology, including computers, networks, and information systems, to meet the needs of individuals and organisations.
